Benefits Support & Enrollment

Q: Where do I enroll or make changes to my benefits?
A: Use Workday to enroll, make changes during open enrollment, or after qualifying life events.

A: If you don’t find what you need in the FAQs, contact the Ensign Benefits Center for help.

Open Enrollment

Q: When is open enrollment?
A: The open enrollment period is announced annually; this is your chance to elect benefits for the next plan year.

Q: Can I make changes outside of open enrollment?
A: Only if you experience a qualifying life event (e.g., marriage, birth, loss of other coverage).

Eligibility

Q: Who is eligible for benefits?
A: Typically, full-time employees and certain part-time employees who meet eligibility criteria are eligible.

Q: Can my dependents get coverage?
A: Yes — you may enroll eligible dependents (spouse, children) during open enrollment or after eligible life events.

Making Changes to Your Benefits

Q: Can I change my benefit elections during the year?
A: Only if you have a qualifying life event or change in status. Otherwise, elections generally stay fixed until the next open enrollment.

Q: What documentation is needed for life events?
A: You’ll be asked to provide proof (e.g., marriage certificate, birth certificate, loss of coverage notice).

Medical / Prescription / Health Plans

Q: How do medical plans differ?
A: Ensign offers multiple plans (Value Copay, Choice HSA PPO, Premier EPO, Centivo PCP Partnership, Kaiser HMO, SIMNSA). You choose the plan that best fits your needs.

Q: How do prescription benefits work?
A: Each medical plan has a prescription drug benefit. Copays, coinsurance, and networks may differ based on which plan you choose.

Health Savings Account (HSA)

Q: What is a Health Savings Account?
A: An HSA is a tax-advantaged account you can use to pay for qualified medical expenses.

Q: Who can contribute to an HSA?
A: Only those enrolled in a high-deductible health plan (e.g., certain Ensign plans) are eligible to contribute.

Dental & Vision

Q: Are dental and vision benefits offered?
A: Yes — Ensign offers dental and vision coverage. Terms, networks, and costs vary; check plan documents for specifics.

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

Q: What is a Flexible Spending Account?
A: An FSA lets you contribute pre-tax dollars to pay for certain eligible health care or dependent care expenses.

Q: Does Ensign offer commuter benefits?
A: Yes — Ensign offers a Commuter Benefit Plan that allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible transit expenses.

Life & AD&D Insurance / Disability

Q: Does Ensign offer life and AD&D insurance?
A: Yes, basic life and AD&D insurance are provided; there are options for supplemental coverage as well.

Q: What about disability benefits?
A: Long-term disability coverage is available under Ensign’s benefit offerings. 

Voluntary Benefits

Q: What voluntary benefits can I elect?
A: Options include voluntary group accident insurance, critical illness, hospital insurance, legal insurance (ARAG), cyber/identity theft protection, pet insurance, and auto/home discounts.

COBRA Continuation Coverage

Q: Am I eligible for COBRA after leaving the company or losing coverage?
A: Yes — you may continue coverage under COBRA, subject to federal rules and timelines.

Medicare

Q: What if I’m Medicare-eligible?
A: You can still coordinate Ensign benefits with Medicare. Specific rules depend on your coverage and status.

401(k) & Financial Wellness

Q: Does Ensign offer a retirement plan?
A: Yes, the Ensign Services, Inc. 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan is available for eligible employees.

Q: Can I roll over funds from another 401(k) into Ensign’s 401(k)?
A: Yes — you may be able to roll over money from another qualified 401(k) plan into Ensign’s 401(k).

Work-Life Benefits

Q: What work-life benefits are available?
A: Ensign offers a variety of benefits including tuition reimbursement, child care assistance, perks/discounts (PerkSpot, TicketsatWork), and employee assistance programs.
