SmartConnect: Your First Stop for Medicare Planning

The transition to Medicare can be confusing, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. When you’re ready to enroll in Medicare, contact SmartConnect for expert guidance to help you select health coverage that fits your needs. This service is provided to you at no cost.

SmartConnect’s team of licensed insurance agents can walk you through your Medicare options, helping you research and compare the plans, including original Medicare (Parts A & B), Medicare Supplement plans, Part D prescription coverage, and Medicare Advantage (Part C).

There are so many ways to structure Medicare coverage and finding the “right” option depends on things like your prescriptions, where you live, how often you travel, and your comfort level with monthly premiums versus out-of-pocket costs. SmartConnect provides one-on-one personalized guidance that includes reviewing plans from national insurance carriers to help you choose coverage that meets your health care needs and budget.

When you find a plan that works for you, your agent will guide you through enrollment. After you’ve enrolled, SmartConnect is available to answer questions, review policies, and assist if you need help working with the carrier.

Medicare Tips to Know Before You Retire

You’ll need your Medicare card before meeting with SmartConnect. If you’re under age 65, your Initial Enrollment Period starts three months before the month of your 65th birthday. If you’re over 65, you can enroll after you retire as part of a Special Enrollment Period. You can start enrollment three months before your planned retirement date. You can apply for Medicare at ssa.gov/medicare/sign-up.

Take a moment to review this checklist before meeting with your SmartConnect agent:

  • Make a list of your current prescriptions: Names, dosages, and preferred pharmacies.
  • Think about your providers: Which doctors/specialists do you want to keep seeing?
  • Consider your travel habits: Do you spend time in multiple states or travel often?
  • Know your timeline: When will you retire (if applicable) and when does your Medicare eligibility begin?
  • Be ready to discuss health needs: Do you have any ongoing conditions or upcoming treatments/surgeries?
  • Understand your priorities: Are you looking for the lowest monthly premium or lower out-of-pocket costs when you use care?
  • Bring your current plan details: This helps you compare Medicare to your employer coverage.
  • Write down questions ahead of time: Examples: “Can I keep my doctor?” “What will prescriptions cost?” “How do networks work in my area?”
